It all started when the news of the New York movement (Gay Pride Parade) arrived to Mexico during the beginning of the 70s. After some incidents of discrimination, a group of intellectuals and artists created a group of reflection, called "people of environment".
This group was given the task of creating a documentary that reflected the discrimination suffered by lesbians and gays in the country, in addition to promoting homosexuality as a decision, not as a disease. This was the pre-stage to create the Homosexual Revolutionary Action Front.
In 1979 the first march in defense of violence by authorities and society was organized, with the help of El FHAR, The Lambda Group for Homosexual Liberation and OIKABETH (Feminist Lesbian Movement in Mexico).
From the 80s, marches also supported the fight against AIDS and non-governmental organizations were created to provide medical treatments and information on this disease. the Gay Cultural Week was created was created in 1892, where workshops, talks and films were organized in order to educate Mexican society.
